For black and white photos, we use Ilford Professional film, renowned for its fine grain and excellent reproduction of skin tones. Our black and white photos are printed on Ilford’s Multigrade Paper, which has the widest tonal range of any black and white photographic paper. What does this mean? Photos printed on this type of paper beautifully convey the complete tonal range of black and white photographs, reproducing subtle details in whites, blacks, and mid tones (hair, skin, eyes).

For color photos, we use Fuji Professional Color Portrait film. The reproduction of smooth, creamy skin tone is the hallmark of the Fujicolor Pro series, which renders all hues consistently from highlight to shadow, regardless of density. Fujifilm’s newly developed Super-efficient DIR Coupler Technology and 4th Color Layer Technology enhance the rendering of subtle skin colors and the “edge effect,” resulting in dramatically improved image sharpness, revealing details from highlight to shadow and giving everything from translucent to very tan skin a dynamic, lifelike realism. Our color photos are printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, which offers image stability of more than 100 years before noticeable fading occurs in typical home display (wall or tabletop frame), and more than 200 years before fading occurs in dark storage conditions (an album).

I have been a professional photographer since 1986 and use film to create the best photographs possible for my clients. I recognize the convenience of digital images and all packages include high resolution digital files from film to facilitate easy sharing of your photos with family and friends. Color files are large enough for a 5 x 7 print and black and white files are large enough for an 8 x 10 print. Prints made from your original negatives can withstand substantial enlargement- up to 20 x 24 inches- with no reduction in image sharpness. Your digital files can be uploaded to photo sharing and social networking websites indefinitely and/or burned to a DVD and shared. All 475 images on this website are digital files scanned from 35mm and medium format film negatives.

I do not use any image manipulation software to digitally alter or artificially enhance images beyond traditional darkroom techniques. Your negatives are scanned at my professional color lab in Atlanta and professional black and white lab in Greensboro when your film is processed. Black and white images are created with black and white film and are not color files that have been desaturated or digitally converted to black and white with photo manipulation software. I shoot black and white film, have printed both color and black and white film, and understand what constitutes professional quality color and black and white printing. I have worked with both of my professional photo labs for many years and they have processed thousands of rolls of film for me. Every digital file from film, proof, and reprint our clients receive is personally inspected by me and Donna several times prior to preparation for shipment.
